When I was getting ready to head to Stockholm last month, one important question I had was what was the best Marriott Hotel in Stockholm? As a Marriott loyalist, staying at a place where I could use points was important to me. If you want to learn how to earn Marriott points quickly, check out this post.

Marriott Hotel in Stockholm
So when you are taking a look at booking a Marriott Hotel in Stockholm, one of the first things to consider is where most of your activities will be. For me, I knew I wanted to visit the Old Town and the Vasa Museum, among other things. (If you want an overview of my itinerary in Sweden, check out this post.) Since I was traveling solo and visiting in the winter, I wanted to avoid long walks to each of my destinations. Therefore, this eliminated the Courtyard Marriott.
After checking out a lot of reviews, I was between the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel and the Nobis Hotel Stockholm. Fortunately, I was staying in Stockholm during the beginning and end of my trip. Therefore instead of choosing between the two hotels, I tried out both!
Sheraton Stockholm Hotel
The Stockholm airport is not actually in the city. Most people take the Arlanda Express train to reach the city from the airport. It’s about a 20 minute ride. What that means though is that you will arrive at the Stockholm Central Station and then need to get to your hotel.
This is the first big perk of staying at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel – location. It’s a pretty short walk from Central Station to the Sheraton. The Sheraton is also incredibly close to the Gamla Stan.
If you are a traveler from the US, this hotel also has a lot of the familiar feeling of American hotels. If you are hesitant about your travel to Stockholm for whatever reason, this is a great hotel to make you feel more at home.
The rooms are nice and I was upgraded to a lovely view of Lake Mälaren. I wouldn’t say that they were the most modern, but still very nice. The hotel also features a fitness center (that I did not check out – was too busy exploring) and a bar (which was nice!).
Nobis Hotel Stockholm
The other hotel I stayed at while I was on my trip was the Nobis Hotel Stockholm. This hotel is quite a bit farther from the Central Station. I actually requested an Uber and after having 3 rides cancel on me, I ended up walking.
Side note: Taxis in Stockholm can be corrupt and I did have luck getting an Uber pickup from my hotels, just not at the Central Station.
This is a little farther from the touristy sections of Stockholm, however you definitely feel more immersed in the city staying here. Even the front of the Nobis Hotel is a little hard to spot and I walked right by it initially.
I will say that the accessibility is a little limited here. If you can’t get your bag up a few steps (~6), then maybe you might want a different hotel. Apparently there is a ramp somewhere, however it definitely wouldn’t be something you would spot. Someone would need to point it out.
The Nobis Hotel is famous for its link to Stockholm Syndrome as this is the building where the whole thing went down. Definitely not something you will find anywhere else!
The Nobis Hotel is definitely a 5-star hotel with a boutique atmosphere. This is much more European style, and potentially preferable if you are looking to branch out a bit from the typical Marriott feel.
The Nobis Hotel also has a fitness center (once again, didn’t visit since I was sightseeing) and a bar that definitely exceeds the one at the Sheraton.
Best Marriott Hotel in Stockholm
In summary, choosing the best Marriott Hotel in Stockholm is going to depend on your preferences. Would you rather be closer to Central Station and other touristy spots while feeling like you’re in a hotel back in the US? Then staying at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel would be best. If you would rather a boutique, European style then I would recommend the Nobis Hotel Stockholm.
