I visited La Concha on vacation in December 2019. This trip was purely for relaxation with my friend, Amanda, from pharmacy school. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Puerto Rico. During my trip, I stayed at the Renaissance La Concha hotel in Condado. After this six-night stay, I wanted to provide a La Concha Puerto Rico review.
Pro tip: I stayed at the La Concha Renaissance Hotel on hotel points. To find out how to do this yourself, take a look at this post.
Location
The Renaissance La Concha hotel is right on the water so if you are looking for a beach vacay, you have come to the right spot. The only downside to this oceanside locale is that because of the proximity to the pier, the water in front of La Concha is prone to rip-currents making it likely unsafe for families looking to wave jump. Or really anyone who is looking to go more than waist deep in the water. Despite this, the views were incredible and our weather was perfect. It never got hot enough for me to need to get into the water.
In addition, for those looking to save money, there were both a CVS and a Walgreens within easy walking distance from the hotel. This was perfect to grab snacks & Diet Coke when we needed it.
In addition, we only rented a car for a small portion of our trip to Puerto Rico (when we visited the rainforest). Transportation to and from the hotel was not difficult when we wanted to go to the airport or visit Old San Juan.
Amenities
The Renaissance La Concha hotel had many important amenities. Most importantly for me was both beach chairs and umbrellas while on the beach right outside of La Concha. As I spent a lot of my time on the beach, comfort was a necessity. However, an important part of the La Concha Puerto Rico review is that there are several pools, both regular and infinity, if you would rather spend time there than the beach. The gym was large (although I didn’t visit it!) and there were several available restaurants right on property if you didn’t want to leave.
As a Marriott Ambassador Elite member, breakfast was free daily and it was continental. This meant that there were no hot items available (besides oatmeal). This would probably be the biggest negative portion of my review. Because I am not really a breakfast person, the selections of bagels, pastries, and fruit were acceptable to me. However, if I had been visiting with my husband, he would have been interested in eggs and bacon, which would have required a breakfast upgrade of $11/pp daily. So much for the free breakfast.
Food
Although this part of the amenities section, food is pretty important to me so I wanted to highlight a few of the food options in my La Concha Puerto Rico review. One of my favorite things to order on the beach was the Latina Chips. These weren’t like tortilla chips but rather sweet potato, plantain, and other interesting chip varieties. Paired with the avocado and cheese salsa – yum!
In addition, the mac & cheese burger from the Solera restaurant WAS. SO. DELICIOUS. Okay maybe it’s just because I am really into mac & cheese. But regardless, I would definitely order this again.
Things to Do
Another cool part about staying in the Renaissance La Concha was the activities that were ongoing at the hotel. While we were there, there was a band playing in the lobby that was obviously a local hit (the lobby was PACKED). Additionally, there is also a nightclub downstairs. Although this is supposed to be open until 4am Thursday-Sunday, when we tried to go around 12:30am on a Thursday night it was closed, so definitely don’t count on the hours.
