Where to Stay in St Lucia

The most important part of planning your trip is deciding where to stay in St Lucia. Because we traveled to St Lucia during the COVID-19 pandemic, the choices of where to stay in St Lucia were limited and only certain hotels were COVID-19 certified. This meant no Airbnbs or private lodging for the first 14 days of our stay (and we only stayed a week). However, we were allowed to stay at two separate hotels during the trip so that is what we opted for. The hotels that we chose were very different from each other in both size as well as amenities and they were on opposite ends of the island.
Even had we not visited during COVID-19, staying on both sides of the island offered different experiences and activities which we enjoyed. If you are interested in having a variety, we would certainly recommend this option.
In a rush? ⏰ Then Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is my pick for the very best hotel in St. Lucia since it’s a well-priced, beach-front resort with an outdoor pool 😀
St Lucia Resorts
On the north side of the island, we stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. On the southwest side of the island, we stayed at the Caille Blanc Villa & Hotel. The activies that are mentioned in our Ultimate St Lucia Travel itinerary are highlighted on the two maps below.
Sandals Grande St Lucian
⭐️ Rating: 8.8/10.0 (357 Reviews) Price: $948 per night 📍Location: Pigeon Island Gros Islet, St. Lucia Details: Read more on booking.com now!
The first place we stayed was the all-inclusive and incredibly romantic Sandals Grande St Lucian. This resort caters heavily to couples and it is not really a place I would want to stay with a group of friends. However, for a honeymoon, anniversary, or a just-because trip with your significant other – this is a perfect spot. During non-COVID times, it would be a great place to meet other couples as well.
There are many restaurants on the property so you will surely find something that you like to eat. Reservations are required at several of the restaurants so make plans on your first day of arrival to make sure your requests can be accomodated. You also don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to as there is plenty to do, with shows most evenings, entertainment and on-site activities. The basic rooms are quite nice, but there are over-the-water bungalow options available as well.
A few downsides of the property include that it is far (~1.5 hours drive) from the UVF airport which is where you will fly into. The drive is fairly bumpy and goes on some winding roads so try to sit in the front seat if you get carsick. If you have the available funds, I would highly recommend the helicopter transfer. I wish we would have done this.
Additionally, the Sandals has very slow free wifi. However, for streaming, video calls or doing much more than browsing Facebook, it is an $80/week charge.
“Location was great although it was very far from airport. It felt secluded and the resort gave many options for food.”

St Lucia is famous for its pitons (the distinctive mountain peaks in St Lucia). This hotel is far from those and the only way you would see them is to go on an excursion. The last downside which could also be a positive depending on your preferences, is that the Sandals feels a lot like the United States. You get very minimal cultural immersion.
With the amazing amenities and the downsides mentioned, we knew what to expect going to the Sandals Grande St Lucian. We both felt like we got the experience we were hoping for. We were happy that we got to spend 3 nights at the Sandals Grande St Lucian and absolutely would stay there again.
The Sandals Grande St Lucian is close to Pigeon Island National Park as well as horseback riding at Sandy Hoofs. If either of these activities are on your list, this is the perfect St Lucia resort to choose. You can read a complete review of the Sandals Grande St Lucian on this blog post.
Caille Blanc Villa & Hotel
⭐️ Rating: 9.4/10.0 (111 Reviews) Price: $1150 per night 📍Location: Anse Chastnet Road, St. Lucia Details: Read more on booking.com now!
The second place we stayed was the Caille Blanc Villa. The Caille Blanc was different from the Sandals in almost every way. The Caille Blanc is a small, 5 villa hotel located on the clifside facing the pitons. This means there are a lot less people around you at the Caille Blanc. It almost felt like a private cottage with a butler service. What wasn’t different was the drive to get to the Caille Blanc, it was also winding and similar to the Sandals. However the last little bit of the drive is incredibly steep and very bumpy. We were fortunate to have our taxi driver navigate this for us.
We booked the Sunset villa and it was small but had an incredible view of the pitons. Check out the view of the pitons from the outdoor shower (pictured above) – like whoa. We did not spend too much time in the room. The Grotto villa is definitely the best villa so if you want to go all out, that should be your choice. However, we still enjoyed the Sunset villa a lot and would stay there again.
The Caille Blanc was not all-inclusive but had a meal plan option which we chose. We did all of the food ordering through an app to minimize contact with the staff.
“Highly recommend Caille Blanc. As a boutique hotel (only six rooms) you are really able to relax. The staff are all incredibly friendly – they go above and beyond to ask about your tours and make sure you are prepared for your day. The property is absolutely stunning with a great view of the pitons. The location is convenient to town and area beaches (accessible by shuttle or walking).”

The app was a bit finnicky but overall the process felt safer. The food was good, but limited options as there was one kitchen. We stayed for 3 nights and felt there was enough variety for our duration. Had we stayed longer, a dine-around option at other local hotels was recently government approved so you could have some flexibility.
During non-COVID times, those staying at the Caille Blanc could take a 10 minute walk down to the Anse Chastanet Beach which is located adjacent to the Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet Resort. However, there was also a very small rocky beach located down the clifside from the Caille Blanc. It was a 10 minute walk down and about a 12-15 minute walk up. The steps were large and it is not a casual walk. However it was private and very charming. We visted the beach twice during our stay. If you are planning to visit the beach while staying at the Caille Blanc, definitely make sure to have shoes that you can wear into the water such as these Keen Sandals.
The infinity pool featured in all of the Caille Blanc photos is even better in person. Most infinity pool pictures give off an illusion of being larger than they are in reality. However, the Caille Blanc infinity pool was actually quite big. As there are relatively few people staying at the hotel, you will not be fighting with others for the beautiful views either.
Downsides of this hotel include that you won’t find the plethora of amenities (restaurants, nighttime shows, etc) that you would at a place like the Sandals. However, if you are going somewhere just to relax, this is the place.
The Caille Blanc was about 30 minutes from the pitons as well as the drive-in volcano and mud bath. It was also about 10 minutes from the marina in Soufriere where we rented a catamaran for the day.
Jade Mountain Resort
⭐️ Rating: 9.6/10.0 (196 Reviews) Price: $1662 per night 📍Location: VW7F+GG3, Mamin, St. Lucia Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Wondering where to stay in St. Lucia? If so then you can’t beat a room at the enchanting Jade Mountain Resort.
After all, this incredible, five-star resort is hidden away upon 243 hectares of tropical jungle that overlooks the Caribbean Sea and that is nestled up against the sandy shores of Anse Chastanet Beach.
Furthermore, lavish TV-free rooms are all accented with tropical wooden decor, Wi-Fi, whirlpool tubs, stunning sea views, minifridges, and tea/coffee-making facilities.
“This was our second visit to Jade Mountain and it was just as amazing as the first time two years ago. The covid protocols are in full effect but highly nuanced and subtle in how it’s applied. The service provided by our Major Domos was exceptional. A minor issue associated with the Spa was managed immediately and to great satisfaction.”

“Our stay at the resort was fantastic. The staff were amazing, some of the friendliest, helpful and happiest people we have met. The food was fantastic. The only drawback was that the property (in our room) needs to be updated and remolded. Other then this, we had a wonderful time and certainly would return. Thank you.”
